What was I thinking?!?

I decided to start a blog to record this journey.

I've agreed to a missions trip!

I've agreed to a missions trip?

I've agreed to a missions trip?!?

Yes, the panic is starting to settle in.  I'm the kind of person who supports OTHERS who do this but I don't do this type of thing.  This type of thing is for more serious Christians.  I give to those types of Christians but stay in my comfy little world.

Here's how I got here...my friend Becki has asked me a few times if I'd be interested in going on a missions trip to China to love on babies.  The interest was there but the timing was off.  But she'd post pictures of her trips and I'd find myself filled with this longing to go back to China to love on orphans.

(As an aside, the word ORPHANS really bothers Elise and I don't use it around here...it has such a harsh feeling that comes with hearing that word.  But I've started using privately because with that harshness of the word comes the reality that these children do not have a mom and dad loving on them every single day.  That's reality is pretty harsh in my mind.)

Fast forward to a few months back when Becki asked again if I'd be interested.  Hmmm...the desire was there and the timing worked this time.  I took a huge gulp of faith and submitted my application for a trip this summer.  I know no one on the team I'll be travelling with and we'll be travelling in the heat of a hot Chinese summer.  But, I'm excited to visit China again and looking forward to loving on those children.

So stay tuned for more information as I step into this story and not watch from the sidelines this time.

Thank you to everyone who has been supportive (in words, in prayers, with financial support) so far.  You have no idea how much your words and actions have come at rough spots when I've needed the encouragement.  You may not have known it but God has been working in so many people to remind me this is His will for me.

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future."  Jeremiah 29:11
